Soft, muscle-like performance

Today, automated motion is produced by rigid components that are costly, energy consuming, and noisy. Using inspiration from nature, Artimus Robotics takes a radically new approach to linear motion with HASEL actuator technology.

Life-like motion for the future of automation

HASEL actuator technology enables smart, versatile and compact motion solutions. Originally developed at the University of Colorado Boulder and spun out into Artimus Robotics in 2018, this breakthrough actuation technology details the benefits and eliminates the downfalls of prior soft robotics technologies.

HASEL (Hydraulically Amplified Self-healing ELectrostatic) actuator technology operates when electrostatic forces are applied to a flexible polymer pouch and dielectric liquid to drive shape change in a soft structure. These principles can be applied to achieve a contracting motion, expanding motion, or other complex deformations.  HASEL actuator technology is electrically driven and couples electrostatic and hydraulic forces so a wide variety of actuation modes are possible.

ANALOG MOTION

HASEL actuator force and displacement output are continuously variable and are highly controllable. This control allows for extremely diverse and versatile motions.

SOFT MATERIAL

HASEL actuators are made out of and utilize thin plastic films and liquids to achieve soft compliance. This allows for easy integration as the actuators can adopt and conform to their environment.

ELECTRICALLY CONTROLLED

HASEL actuators provide direct conversion of electrical energy to mechanical energy eliminating complexities such as valves and gears, increasing the ease of implementation.
